5 Delicious Pasta Substitutes to Keep You Full

Alright, I love pasta. Who doesn't? But sometimes we want something a little lighter to use in our favourite noodle dish instead. Here are 5 of my favourite pasta alternatives:

1. Zucchini - When I got my spiralizer for Christmas from my parents my life was instantly changed forever. This device let me make spiral noodles out of any sort of veggie I wanted. Zucchini is my go to and makes a tasty, light alternative to spaghetti or any other long noodle dish.

2. Kelp Noodles - Kelp noodles are exactly that - noodles made from the seaweed kelp. With a relatively neutral taste, these noodles have loads of minerals and very few calories. They have a slight crunch to them, so I suggest letting them soak in warm water for 10ish minutes before adding them to your dish of choice.

3. Shirataki Noodles - Made from the asian root konjac yam, these noodles are usually found in the tofu department and kept in liquid in the packaging. These noodles are nearly calorie free, as the substance they contain is a fibre that is indigestable. Some varieties add soy to the noodles which may add a few calories. The liquid it is suspended in can have a slight odour, so I suggest rinsing them with water a few times before adding to your dish.

4. Spaghetti Squash - This one is no secret. Baking a spaghetti squash and then scraping out the meat from the inside to use as a substitute for pasta is something I have watched my mother do for years and yet it never gets old.

5. Eggplant - Eggplant is an awesome way to switch up your lasagna. Instead of using typical lasagna pasta, thinly slice an eggplant and layer it in your lasagna recipe. YUM!
